  The NEW "Klein's Office Furniture & Supplies" evolved over the last 30 years as has the office furniture business. The original Klein's Office Equipment was established in 1964 by Tony Klein as an office machine and furniture business. In 1965, Tony became the first reseller of Steelcase Office Furniture in South Dakota. State Farm Insurance Company, under the direction of Bob Oliva, purchased the first Steelcase Office Furniture in Pierre. His purchase consisted of a steel desk, file cabinet and a steel chair with vinyl.

The first project with Steelcase and Klein's was the new Highway Department Building, now known as the Becker Hanson Building, in 1967. The building was outfitted with steel desks, file cabinets and steel chairs with, yes, that orange and yellow fabric.

Following that installation was the Kneip Building, in which construction allowed for the "open office" concept. This was the first evolution of freestanding panel systems then called moveable work walls with a desk, file and chair enclosed within the panel system. The first state agency to incorporate this application was known as Public Instruction, now known as the Department of Education and Cultural Affairs.

Tony Klein continued to run and operate Klein's Office Equipment until November 1994. Klein's Office Equipment was sold to Craig Bump and Todd Schuetzle in 1994. The business then moved to the old Sooper Dooper building and opened as Office Plus with Klein's Office Furniture business in March of 2000 to concentrate on providing office products with design and furniture applications.

Klein's Office Furniture has provided furniture and design services in Pierre and throughout South Dakota communities. In March of 2000, Klein's Office Furniture was recognized as a dealer in the "Authorized Steelcase Dealer" program. This program was founded in May of 1998 to ensure that Steelcase is leading the way by combining customer expectations and sound business practices into a set of performance standards that all Authorized Steelcase Dealers must meet.
